As a key member of our team, you will perform complex serological investigations on samples from a patient population that is ethnically diverse sensitized, and generally transfusion-dependent (e.g. patients with cancer, sickle cell disease, AIDS).
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred)
Experience: 5+ years’ experience in transfusion service, including at least 2 years’ experience in immunohematology problem solving; Comprehensive knowledge of the ABO, Rh, MNS, Kell, Duffy, Kidd blood group systems; Awareness of the over 350 antigens of other 23 blood group systems and specific terminology; Knowledge of current immunohematological and Transfusion Medicine practices; MT (ASCP) SBB or equivalent education and Certification satisfactory to the Lab Director
Skills and Abilities: Cognitive problem-solving skills; Ability to communicate complex information to hospital blood bank laboratorians and physicians; PC proficiency and excellent oral/written communication and multitasking skills; Ability to meet NYS Department of Education Licensing requirements for Clinical Lab Technologists; Ability to work independently and without direct supervision
