    This position is responsible for all activities with blood and blood components including, but not limited to, logging-in the units, thawing plasma, thawing and pooling cryoprecipitate, irradiate products and washing RBCs; setting up patient or blood product samples for testing by a technologist/automated machine; maintenance of lab equipment.


    Responsibilities include:

    • Handles blood and blood products by accessioning patient samples, spinning down the blood in the centrifuge and logging all blood products in the computer.
    • Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment
    • Prepare solutions used for laboratory testing and procedures
    • Prepare specimens for testing under the guidance of a medical technologist
    • Ensures all computer entries are accurate.
    • Places orders in Order-Trak and files various documents.
    • Provides customer assistance by answering the phone for the department.
    • Receives customer orders and communicates these orders to the technologists.
    • Screens all other calls and directs them as appropriate.




    High School Diploma or equivalent.



    Some experience in a laboratory setting.


    Any combination of education, training and experience that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
