Responsibilities

Perform molecular and cellular analysis of blood samples from patients and donors. Submit test results and create reports for management review on a timely basis. Perform laboratory developed and kit-based DNA molecular biology tests and automated testing in the Molecular Genomics laboratory. Perform complex serological investigations on samples from a patient population that is ethnically diverse, sensitized and generally transfusion-dependent in the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory. Perform DNA extraction, PCR testing, HEA and others as required. Perform RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and molecular biology sequence analysis. Receive and store laboratory supplies and inform manager of status of supplies and reagents necessary to perform duties. Maintain equipment in optimal condition and maintain refrigerator and freezer logs. Monitor laboratory safety and maintain cleaning logs, ensure laboratory space and equipment is clean and follows safety procedures, and use PPE as directed by SOPs. Maintain legible, accurate and up-to-date records of samples tested and document details of all tests performed. Manage data through computers by entering test results and generating reports form the Progresa computer system. Enter new sequences into GenBank.

Qualifications

Must have a Bachelor’s degree Biological Science, Health Science, Laboratory Science, and three years of professional experience in a Scientific Laboratory position or related. Must have two years of blood group genomics lab experience. Must have two years of experience utilizing the theoretical and practical applications of Molecular biology, Immunohematology and Genomics, with the 35 blood group systems, terminology and clinical significance; and with relevant regulatory requirements. Must hold NY Clinical Lab Technologist License.
