In this role, you will serve as a role model, clinical consultant and educator to the Clinical Apheresis staff, provide on-going refresher training, and identify unique/creative ways to assure accessibility and availability of clinical education programs to staff on all shifts and in all areas.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Ensuring all orientation programs for all newly appointed nursing staff and ongoing training of existing staff, including ancillary nursing personnel, meet regulatory requirements and are current with all policies and procedures
  • Identifying ways to provide learning experiences, evaluate learning and assess performance and competency of staff
  • Teaching selected classes using principles of adult learning and utilizing difference teaching methods including electronic learning to provide education and the required documentation of educational activities
  • Conducting an annual assessment of staff identified competencies
  • Planning in-services, retraining and programs based on individual needs
  • Developing training/education material to meet specific needs of the department, RNs and Specialists
  • Mentoring internal staff and partnering with department leadership to plan and execute training strategy for Clinical Services to align with our mission and strategic plan
  • Providing operational coverage in the absence of the Nurse Manager
  • Covering Charge responsibilities as needed
  • Making recommendations to improve business unit operations
  • Contributing to medical literature in regards to apheresis
  • Handling other related functions as necessary


To qualify, you must have an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and 5 year’s of Nursingexperience (Apheresis preferred), or, a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with 4 years of Nursing experience (Apheresis preferred). In addition, candidate should have at least 3 years of mentoring/preceptor/teaching experience, familiarity with blood product administration, and knowledge of FACT and States and FDA Guidelines, as well as regulatory requirements of acute care setting and Multiple Vascular Access (i.e. Central Venous Catheters, AV Fistula, AV Graft, PIV, and implanted Central Venous ports) preferred. The ability to create and present professional grade deliverables such as technical architecture documents, technical drawings and presentations will also be expected, as will the ability to understand laboratory protocols and SOPs. Excellent organizational, oral/written communication, analytical, multi-tasking and PC skills essential.
