Responsibilities

As a key member of our team and under the direction of the Clinical Supervisor and Director, you will notify and counsel blood donors regarding test results and other clinical issues, as well as support the collections staff with eligibility and deferral issues.

 

Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Ensuring SOPs, regulations, guidelines, practices and policies are adhered too
  • Counseling donors on test results and other relevant medical issues
  • Executing multiple miscellaneous protocols including, but not limited to, post donation information calls, various donor eligibility and deferral protocols
  • Serving as a resource for staff, Blood Bank Directors and treating physicians regarding counseling, testing, safety of blood supply, eligibility issues, treatment and research protocols
  • Executing various internal and external research protocols
  • Overseeing special projects (i.e. hepatitis vaccine programs)
  • Performing donor reaction and injury follow up
  • Participating in generation of abstracts and papers
  • Participating in appropriate blood center initiatives, committees, etc.
  • Handling other related functions as necessary

Qualifications

To qualify, you must have a current NYS RN License, BSN, and 3+ years of HIV, STD, Substance Abuse or related experience. Knowledge of relevant infectious diseases and other medical issues will be expected, as will the ability to draw blood samples using venous access and identify complex problems in a timely manner. Superior oral/written communication, analytical, interpersonal and PC (Microsoft Office) are all essential.
