As a key member of our team you will carry out assigned technical and non-technical activities related to the overall collection process of blood and blood products under the direction of the Medical Director, Regional Collections Manager, and unit Manager/Team Leader. The Donor Specialist will also ensure adherence to the policies and procedures as defined in the NYBC, FDA, NJ/NYS DOH and affiliated organizations.


Responsibilities include:


  • Determining donor eligibility
  • Performing blood collections and carrying out specified procedures related to whole blood and apheresis collections, ensuring the safety of the donor, recipient, staff and product 
  • Playing an active role in blood donor recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Maintaining a clean, safe working environment
  • Performing assigned tasks in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Demonstrating ability/willingness to work as a “Team” Member
  • Maintaining collection site records and donor confidentiality 
  • Participating in appropriate in-services, training programs and error reviews
  • Travelling to various collection sites
  • Handling other related functions as needed




Education: To qualify, you must have a High School Diploma/GED (college degree preferred),


Experience: Preferably, prior healthcare, phlebotomy and/or customer relations experience. Must have a reliable vehicle and valid drivers license are also essential in order to travel to site locations.


Skills/Abilities: Ability to follow instructions/direction from superiors, effectively communicate with donors; Knowledge of computer applications and familiarity with databases will be expected, as will the ability to make sound decisions based on established guidelines.  Excellent verbal/written communications, decision-making, organizational, and PC skills are all required.
