Through NYBC’s network of blood banks and its scientific divisions – including the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics and the National Cord Blood Program – NYBC serves nearly 600 hospitals and dozens of research organizations, academic institutions, and biomedical companies each year.

    Responsibilities

    Founded in 1992, NYBC’s National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) is the first and largest public bank for hematopoietic stem cells anywhere in the world. NCBP was also the first to develop a human stem cell product licensed by the FDA (HEMACORD™), winner of the 2014 Prix Galien award for “Best Biotechnology Product.” As a key member of NCBP’s Quality Control Testing Laboratory, you will play an integral role in performing cGLP-level technical procedures involved in the day-to-day operation of the laboratory, and join a collegial team engaged in R&D projects to advance the Program’s legacy of innovation.

The Laboratory is looking for creative, proactive and well organized people. Depending on your qualifications and experience, as a Level I, II or III Quality Control Testing Laboratory technologist your duties may include, the following:

    • Testing cord blood cells and components for in-process, final product and pre-release quality control
      • Procedures include but are not limited to: sterility testing using automated VersaTRek System, automated cell blood counts, DNA extraction, PCR and real-time PCR assays, cell culture and cell functionality tests, ABO/RH typing and screening for Sickle Cell Hemoglobinopathies using HPLC
    • Management of the biobank for DNA and plasma storage and distribution
    • Environmental Monitoring sampling and measurement
    • Compliance with cGMP and cGLP
    • Compliance with NYS DOH, FACT and FDA regulations
    • SOP writing and ordering of reagents and supplies
    • Maintenance of reagents and supplies inventory
    • Equipment troubleshooting

     

    Hours

    • 9am to 5pm standard shifts, occasional flexibility required from 8am to 8pm
    • Monday through Friday with Saturday and holiday rotation (overtime & shift premium-eligible)

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a medical technology-related field (or equivalent experience)
    • Ideally 1+ years of biomedical laboratory experience
    • Current NYS Clinical Laboratory Technologist License, additional ASCP Certification preferred
    • Excellent organizational, oral/written communication, analytical, multi-tasking, and PC skills
    • Capability to work under pressure
