    In this role, you will oversee all activities associated with the monitoring and preparation of in-house Panel cells inventory, as well as freezing, storing and recovering red cell samples. In addition, you will perform Quality Control checks on equipment, chemicals, enzymes and reagents, handle administrative functions, and ensure Standard Operating procedures are followed and adhered to.


    Responsibilities include:


    • Preparing in-house red cell panel, including papain-treatment and Quality Control testing after preparation
    • Maintaining records for freezing and recovering of red cell droplets as needed
    • Coordinating call in, retrieval and aliquot freezing of panel cell donor units
    • Performing equipment QC, maintenance and cleaning
    • Preparing simple solutions, enzymes and other chemicals
    • Releasing antigen negative RBCs to appropriately fill blood orders from client hospitals with supervision
    • Selecting and verifying antibody positive donors in the lab data base
    • Locating and sampling product for submission to other facilities for evaluation
    • Texting donor samples for rare antigens to identify rare donors
    • Providing support to the laboratory that includes preparation and processing reports
    • Maintaining Standard Operating procedures for the lab and other suitable projects
    • Maintaining general office supplies and inventory
    • Making recommendations for process improvements within the lab
    • Handling other related duties as needed


    To qualify, you must have a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Medical Laboratory, Biological Sciences or a related field, along with 1-2 years’ experience in a laboratory setting. NYS Department of Education Licensing for Clinical Laboratory Technician preferred. Ability to follow SOPs, and carry out comprehensive quality control procedures will be expected, as will superior organizational, oral/written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and PC (Microsoft Office Suite) skills.
