In this role, you will provide leadership and direction for our medical education, transfusion medicine, clinical trials and donor support operations, while developing and reviewing technical/medical policies, processes and procedures of assigned organizational units.


Responsibilities include:

  • Providing medical directorship, both face-to-face and via phone or on-call to assigned organizational units.
  • Consulting and making recommendations on medical, technical and overall operations.
  • Participating in various internal and external groups.
  • Publishing and presenting publications to national and international organizations and being available for speaking engagements.
  • Assisting in the development of training and educational materials and lectures, including the NYBC Transfusion Medicine Fellowship Program.
  • Establishing and maintaining in-house credentialing function.
  • Developing project plans for implanting growth based on organizational assessment.
  • Cross training and supporting all areas under the purview of Medical Director’s office.
  • Performing research studies.
  • Providing support for special projects.


To qualify, you must be an M.D. or D.O. and be BC/BE in Transfusion Medicine with one year of blood banking and transfusion medicine experience (which may comprise an ACGME accredited fellowship) with the ability to obtain appropriate NYS Certificates of Qualification. 

The position requires a license to practice medicine in New York and possibly other states, and knowledge of laboratory operations/blood donor screening will be expected, as will the ability to conduct research on various topics. The ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization, excellent oral/written communication skills, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills are a must.
