Responsibilities

New York Blood Center Enterprises (NYBCe) is seeking an experienced, entrepreneurial Principal to join NYBC Ventures, the organization's specialty life sciences venture fund. This is an opportunity for a senior life sciences investor to take on significant deal ownership and portfolio leadership within one of the world's leading blood and biotherapeutics organizations, with direct exposure to a differentiated portfolio spanning hematology, cell therapy, biologics, and adjacent fields.

The role is based in Boston, MA and is an in-office position. It reports directly to the Managing Director of NYBC Ventures & SVP of Ventures and Business Development. The Principal operates with autonomy and is expected to lead investments and portfolio relationships directly, while contributing to fund strategy under the Managing Director.

Investment Diligence & Sourcing

  • Lead the full investment lifecycle — sourcing, scientific and commercial diligence, structuring, and closing — across NYBC Ventures' portfolio and new deal pipeline.
  • Conduct and oversee in-depth competitive landscape analysis, market sizing, and IP assessment for prospective investments.
  • Co-author investment memos and support recommendations to the Investment Committee.
  • Originate and maintain relationships with co-investors, entrepreneurs, academic founders, and ecosystem partners in the blood, biologics, and broader life sciences space.

Portfolio Management & Support

  • Serve directly in board or observer roles for a portfolio of active investments, with full ownership of milestone tracking and financial reporting review.
  • Lead preparation for board and observer meetings; take primary responsibility for a defined segment of active board coverage.
  • Lead follow-on financing tracking and support capital raise processes for portfolio companies.
  • Contribute directly to communications, portfolio updates, and fund reporting, including Board materials.

Fund Operations & Strategy

  • Drive NYBC Ventures' strategic initiatives, including thesis development, market landscape assessments, and sector-specific investment frameworks.
  • Lead deal structuring, cap table analysis, and financial modeling for new investments and follow-ons.
  • Own fund administration workstreams including exit analysis, waterfall modeling, and distribution planning.
  • Support the Managing Director on emerging fund strategy and team development.

Level Expectations:

  • Diligence: Leads diligence independently across scientific, clinical, and commercial workstreams; owns investment thesis development and drives the IC memo end to end.
  • Deal Execution: Leads structuring and negotiation; owns full deal execution from term sheet through close, with minimal oversight.
  • Portfolio Management: Holds board or observer seats directly; manages portfolio company relationships and escalations with full independence.
  • Financial Modeling: Owns complex models, including waterfall, scenario, and follow-on analysis.
  • Sourcing: Proactively sources and originates deals; maintains a network of founders, co-investors, and ecosystem partners.
  • Communication: Produces polished memos and materials with no review required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:

  • 7 years in life sciences venture capital, growth equity, or investment banking, or related fields including a demonstrated track record of sourcing and closing investments.

Skills:

  • Cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.

Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the requirements above that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.
